Replacing the control cord on roller shutters

In this article we will look at, and provide detailed information on, exactly how to replace the control cord on roller shutters.

This may be needed if your control cord has become dirty through use or has been damaged.

In our case, the cassette will be located indoors.

For the replacement you will need: a new cord, which you can buy from us on the website, a screwdriver and pliers.

Step-by-step cord replacement in the Magnita cassette mechanism

1. First, use the screwdriver to undo the screws on the box cover and remove it.

2. Next, disconnect the tension springs and undo the screw holding the shaft.

3. The next step is to remove the shaft and take the old cord off the pulley.

4. Then insert the new cord into the hole in the pulley and tie a knot. The new cord must be at least three times longer than the height of the shutter itself.

5. After this, insert the shaft into the box and wind the cord until it matches the height of your shutter.

6. Fit the tension springs, screw the box cover back on and feed the new cord through into the room.

Next you need to remove the old cord from the cassette mechanism. To do this, take the screwdriver and press on the release mechanism.

Once the cassette has opened, take out the pulley and remove the old cord. Take the new cord and first of all feed it through the cassette. You can lightly melt the end of the cord with a lighter so that the fibres don't fray.

Fit the special metal clip onto the very end of the cord. If you don't have a new one, you can take it off the old cord. Secure it with the pliers, squeezing it from the sides.

Then hook this clip onto the pulley and wind the cord counterclockwise. Insert the pulley into the cassette and close it.

That's it, the shutter is now ready to use.
