Instructions for inserting a lock into the bottom rail of roller shutter systems

Today we are going to look at how to make a simple mortise of a bolt lock into the bottom rail.

This process does not take much time, and we have also made a video so that you can see everything for yourself.

The procedure for preparing for the bolt lock insertion

1. Take the bottom bar and place it with the back side towards you. Use a tape measure to determine its centre. The length of our bottom bar is 88.5 cm. So its centre is 24.25 cm, mark it.

2. Next, we take our template. You can make a similar one for your lock. The central hole is for the lock, and the other two are for the cutter. We will make slots between them.

3. Mark our bar and make two horizontal slots between the extreme markings. Next, using a 2.5 cm diameter crown, we will cut out the centre for the lock secret.

4. Put the crown to the centre point and cut a hole.

This completes the preparation of the bottom bar.

The procedure for preparing crossbar plates

1. Now we need to calculate the size of the crossbar plates. To do this, subtract 15.5 cm from the bottom plank and divide by 2. We get 36.5 cm.

2. Measure the crossbar plates with a ruler, mark 36.5 cm and cut them off.

3. Next, using our template, mark the holes for the axles and make them.

4. After that, take the adhesive tape and use it to attach the lock to the crossbar. This is done to prevent them from scrolling during installation.

The crossbar plates are now ready.

Installing the lock in the lower bar of the security roller shutter

1. Take the lock. Bend it slightly before installing it.

2. Take the crossbar plates and insert them into the bottom bar, with the holes facing the lock, so that they fall into our slot.

3. Put our lock on and hit the crossbar plates with the axis from both sides. You need to visually make sure that the bolt and lock are in their holes.

4. Now screw it on. At the same time, support the bolt with your finger so that it does not move. If the plate that we attached with tape has moved a little, then correct it.

Check how the lock works. If you did everything correctly, your key will be pulled out in the open and closed position.
